KAOHSIUNG — The city’s concert boom and broader tourism growth are reshaping local transportation patterns, but one company seems to be benefiting more than most. The United Daily News reports that demand in Kaohsiung for services from Uber has tripled over the past three years.
According to data released this week by the company, both rider numbers and total trips in Kaohsiung have grown threefold since the app launched locally in 2022. Uber said the number of professional drivers working with partner fleets in the city rose 25 percent in 2025, with average wait times now around five minutes.
According to the company, the three most common drop-off points are Zuoying High Speed Rail Station (左營高鐵站), Kaohsiung International Airport (高雄國際機場), and Kaohsiung Main Station (高雄車站). The top pickup locations were Pier-2 Art Center (駁二藝術特區), E SKY Mall (義享時尚廣場), and Dream Mall (夢時代). One especially notable travel pattern, Uber said, is the strong demand between the high-speed rail station and Kaohsiung Arena (高雄巨蛋), underscoring the impact of major concerts and events on out-of-town visitor traffic.
Uber Eats data also highlighted distinct local tastes. Kaohsiung users order braised pork rice (肉燥飯) 47 percent more often than customers in Taipei, while guoshao yi mian (鍋燒意麵) orders are eight times higher. The company also said Kaohsiung leads southern Taiwan in delivery demand for salty fried chicken (鹹酥雞) and that black tea-based drinks are ordered at more than twice the rate seen in Taipei.
