KAOHSIUNG — Complaints about a hot platform and lengthy late-night waits at Kaohsiung International Airport MRT Station (高雄國際機場站) have prompted the city’s Transportation Bureau to ask the operator to review temperature control.
According to an Oct. 21 report by China Times, a passenger arriving on an evening flight complained on Threads after 11 p.m. on Oct. 19 that she had waited more than 20 minutes for a train on a crowded platform without air conditioning.
Other commenters described similar experiences at the airport station and elsewhere on the network, questioning if the service for arriving travelers was acceptable.
Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corp. said scheduled Red Line intervals are 20 minutes during the late-night off-peak period. It also explained that stations switch off their chilled-water cooling equipment shortly before services end to conserve energy.
Ventilation continues operating, distributing residual cooling through the system, while platform fans remain running, the company said.
The Transportation Bureau said it had instructed the operator to monitor passenger numbers and platform temperatures at the airport’s R4 station around 11 p.m., following the service standard of 28.5 degrees Celsius.
The report did not provide a measured platform temperature during the passenger’s wait or announce any change to late-night train intervals.
