KAOHSIUNG — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) said Monday that the city’s planned MRT Purple Line (捷運紫線) could move into its next major planning stage in September if a Central Government review of the revised feasibility report proceeds smoothly.

Background plans describe the Purple Line as an almost 37-kilometer, 29-station medium-capacity route with both underground and elevated sections, although those details remain subject to change as the project moves through review.

Chen also said that the future of the 205 Arsenal site (205兵工廠) could play a crucial role in Kaohsiung’s next stage of transformation. Chen said faster development of the site through cooperation with private firms could help spur surrounding growth, and he expressed hope that the next mayor would treat the land as a key strategic asset and attract internationally significant industries to the area.
