On Nov. 28, the Pingtung County Police Bureau [屏東縣警察局] rolled out a holiday traffic playbook for Taiwan’s southern tourist corridor, pairing smart signals and CMS alerts with targeted lane reversals and a night pedestrian zone on Kenting Street [墾丁大街].
The line would connect Daliao (大寮) to Linyuan (林園), forming the southern section of the Kaohsiung MRT circle and linking major industrial and residential districts.
A small gallery next to the main shelter building preserves the wartime history, displaying material about the old camp and its prisoners. Critics argue that the redevelopment erased too much of the physical site. Supporters say the county struck a balance between present-day needs and acknowledgment of the past.
Kaohsiung’s Transportation Bureau (高雄市交通局) has launched trial operations of its reservation-based “Happy Shared Bus” service in Taoyuan District (桃源區) and Namaxia District (那瑪夏區), offering free rides during the testing period to support students, seniors, and residents needing medical or administrative access.
Calls to reopen Hengchun Airport (恆春機場) are now coming not only from local lawmakers, but also local youth civic groups.
Taro News reported that “after the Ministry of Transportation reviewed and approved the revised plan, the Kaohsiung City Government now says the full line will open in 2034. The partial opening of sections Y1 to Y5 and Y5 to Y18 (from the depot area to the Weiwuying district) could occur in 2032.”
