The site, spanning 45 hectares at the intersection of Sanmin (三民) and Renwu (仁武) districts, underwent a NT$200 million conversion process beginning in 2016. The Liberty Times reports that this project involved the relocation of approximately 70,000 graves. While the park officially opened in 2018, initial public engagement remained low due to lingering cultural stigmas and an entrance route that required passing the city’s primary funeral parlor.

The expansion added roughly 270 ping of immigration and customs processing space and 215 ping for baggage claim, along with new passenger corridors and covered walkways connecting the two buildings. The facility now includes 14 manual inspection counters and four automated clearance systems to improve passenger flow.

Kaohsiung’s Red Line already includes two stations widely praised for their design — Formosa Boulevard Station, famous for its Dome of Light installation, and Central Park Station, known for its distinctive modern architecture. Some civic leaders argue that the Yellow Line should strive for a similar international standard in station design and public art.
