Kaohsiung has launched a new international tourism campaign, with promotional ads rolling out in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, and Malaysia as the city tries to raise its profile in key overseas travel markets.

The group said self-driving vehicles are unlikely to replace a city’s main public transportation network, but could improve first- and last-mile connections. It said city agencies would need to coordinate over the next two years on how robotaxis could serve major transit and tourism hubs, including the airport, harbor, rail stations, and visitor destinations.

The move follows repeated complaints about congestion at the airport during what officials have described as “extreme peak” hours. Passenger flow is especially heavy between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m., when more than 2,000 travelers can enter the departure area within a two-hour window.

The group is scheduled to perform three shows in Kaohsiung on Nov. 19, 21, and 22, marking a major pop-culture event for southern Taiwan and one of the city’s highest-profile international music bookings of the year.

Police said Kaohsiung recorded 739 drug-impaired driving cases from January through May, an increase of 299 cases from the same period last year.

Officials said most falls appeared to be caused by children running, chasing each other, or colliding in the water-play area. The office said the ground surface had been upgraded to improve slip resistance, but urged visitors not to run in the water area.

The Education Bureau said it is drafting guidelines to help schools decide when to activate the communication mechanism before formally accepting a case. Outside professionals are expected to be brought in to assist schools, including representatives from principal associations, teacher groups, parent groups, counseling and guidance specialists, and legal professionals.

Authorities said the car rental company accumulated 133 tickets for traffic violations, including illegal parking and speeding, and also owed parking fees, ETC highway tolls, and business income tax.

Mayor Chen said the city would expand contracted counseling institutions, provide funding for stress-management and emotional-support courses in schools, and use the employee assistance program to connect teachers with medical and mental-health resources. He also said the KH Education Bureau had been asked to identify problems reported by frontline educators and bring in cross-departmental resources, including psychologists, social workers, and medical institutions.
