Kaohsiung has introduced scooter parking areas without individual spaces, saying the design can accommodate different vehicle sizes. Some riders fear the result will be scooters packed too tightly to remove safely.

A new lakeside sidewalk on Wenqian Road (文前路) in Niaosong District (鳥松) has opened, adding another piece to Kaohsiung’s walking network around Chengcing Lake (澄清湖). The Kaohsiung Public Works Bureau said the new section gives pedestrians a safer route along the lake, where residents previously had to walk beside traffic.

More than 30,000 people visited Kaohsiung’s new family recreation park on opening day, making the former TRA workshop one of the city’s busiest new summer attractions.

Officials are urging visitors to use public transportation, particularly during the opening period. The park is about a one-minute walk from the C35 Kaisyuan Wuchang light rail station (凱旋武昌站).

Lantian Elementary School, a new NT$1.07 billion campus near Kaohsiung University, is scheduled to open Aug. 31. The city said Lantian is Taiwan’s first elementary school built entirely with a steel structure. Construction was completed in less than two years.

Chen also asked the Transportation Bureau, Mass Rapid Transit Bureau, and Police Department to strengthen traffic control around the site, including nearby roads, public transport links, and parking areas. The city said the goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, and smooth visitor experience for people coming from across Taiwan.
